“The schools that produced the highest academic achievement in the United States today are spending 20% to 30% of the day on the arts, with special emphasis on music.”International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IAEEA) Test, 1988 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL The new school year is launched and we are experiencing the joy of making music. Thank you for your support, and particularly for encouraging your student to continue his/her study of music. The investment of time, effort, and energy will produce lifelong dividends.Davis High School is rich in the tradition of fine musical organizations. Over the past 24 years I have worked hard to make the band program at Davis High School one of the finest and most respected in the State. We could not have accomplished all we have however if it were not for the terrific support we receive from the talented students and dedicated parents. Evidence continues to focus on the music as a vital component in the positive growth of every child. For years we have pointed to the music students as those who have demonstrated a special talent. However, based on extended studies we now know it is the very process of learning music that develops the artistic mind and brings forth the creative potential in all young people. For this reason, continued membership in our musical family is strongly encouraged.Your participation and encouragement is vital to us and we welcome any, and all input you might have to make our programs even stronger. I invite — NO, CHALLENGE — you to become active with your student's musical education at Davis High through the many support activities of the Band Boosters. Each month you will receive a Band Newsletter with articles that explain what is happening in our band classes and activities that the boosters have planned for the coming months.Attached to this email is a preliminary calendar of Band Events scheduled for this coming school year. Please note that care has been taken to get as much information into this calendar as is possible at this early date. However, THERE WILL BE CORRECTIONS, DELETIONS, AND ADDITIONS as the year progresses. I thought you might like this information early in order to plan your school year. Why not take this opportunity to put these important dates on your home calendar? I’m sure you will want to be part of this great tradition at Davis High School. Please plan to attend the first meeting of the Davis High School Band Boosters on Tuesday evening, August 31, at 7:30 in the band room at DHS (Room PA3) so you can see first-hand what makes our group on of the most respected in our school. Musically Yours Fred Lange
