Message-ID: ----- Original Message ----- From: Lynne Rumery To: J. Hamaguchi Cc: cjchoy at sbcglobal.net Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2009 1:24 AM Subject: Please sign up for Nugget scrip and Safeway escrip to benefit the DHS bands. No donations necessary! Hello, band families! Did you know that you can support the DHS bands simply by buying groceries? The Nugget Market scrip and Safeway e-scrip programs provide us with fantastic opportunities to raise funds for our wonderful bands. And what makes these programs so terrific is that they require no more than 1-2 minutes of your time every once in a while! There are NO monetary donations involved. Here's what you need to do: Next time you're buying groceries at Nugget, ask the cashier for a scrip application. While he/she is checking you out, you can fill out the few lines on the application, designating Davis Senior High School Band Boosters as the beneficiary. Simply hand this back to the cashier, and he/she will see to it that you are registered. You then have the option of "loading" your card with a chosen dollar amount and presenting it to be scanned whenever you shop, or of simply keeping it in your wallet and using it alongside your credit card or cash every time you make a purchase. That's it! Nugget will donate 3% of your purchase amounts to Band Boosters. It's truly something for nothing! (It's important to know that if you lose a loaded card, all you have to do is notify Nugget, which maintains a record of the amount you have on your card. Nugget will cancel that card and reissue you one with the same amount as the original.) Also, you can sign up multiple family members, so that everyone has his/her own card. Applying for the Safeway escrip program is also extremely quick and simple. It does necessitate your having a Safeway Club Card. With your card number in hand, simply visit the escrip website at www.escrip.com, click on the #1 option - "sign up", follow the very clear instructions, and designate Davis Senior High School Band Boosters as your beneficiary. (FYI, our ID number is "137316731, and our zip code is 95617. You must type out "Davis Senior High School Band Boosters" exactly, in order for the system to recognize our organization properly.) That is absolutely all you need to do! Simply present your Safeway Club Card every time you shop there (as you've already been doing), and the band program will receive funds. You do have to renew your registration every year with this program, by getting on the website and clicking "Yes, Renew!" - again, an extremely quick and easy process. (If you have been signed up in the past, then, but haven't renewed your registration, please do take a minute to do this.) While you are on the escrip website, you have the opportunity to sign up for other vendors (such as Macy's, Big O Tires, Outdoor Kids) and also can register your credit cards and ATMs, if you feel comfortable doing this. Every time you make a purchase at one of these vendors or whenever you use your credit cards or ATM, we will benefit, also. If you are already using scrip and have children attending other schools that are listed as beneficiaries, you can register Davis Senior High School Band Boosters as an additional beneficiary. You are allowed up to three beneficiaries per scrip account. Please don't forget to tell your family members to sign up, too. Your loved ones can even be living outside of Davis and can designate our organization as the beneficiary for their scrip. These programs have tremendous fundraising potential if we have strong participation. We realize that you are being asked to open your wallets quite a bit these days; the appeal of these programs is that you are not being asked to donate your own funds. Simply sign up and let the stores do the donating on your behalf! Thank you very much for your time and attention. I will be in the lobby at the upcoming concerts with both Nugget scrip cards and signup instructions for escrip. Please stop by to pick up what you need and also to ask any questions. Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me, also, with any questions or concerns. I'll look forward to seeing you soon! I am pleased that the Cross Country and Water Polo teams appreciate our students' talents but you should know that neither of these are OFFICIAL Pep Band functions. A number of our students showed up at the Cross Country meet last year and were greatly appreciated. The team has asked that these "PEPPY PEOPLE" show up again this year at their meet in Folsom on Saturday morning. The official DHS PEP BAND WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING. No credit will be given for student participation and no points will be lost if they choose not to do so. The DHS Pep Band does not travel as a group. This would require getting official permission from the school for a field trip, drivers liability forms and permission slips. We have not done any of this preliminary work. Students may play their own instruments any where they choose. If they do so this is not considered a school activity and they do so at their own risk. School activities require a Certificated Employee to be present and in charge. I AM NOT GOING TO BE A PART OF EITHER OF THESE EVENTS. If you allow your student to participate as one of these "PEPPY PEOPLE", be advised that school liability does not cover your student at either of these events. I certainly don't expect there to be any danger whatsoever, but there will be parent drivers taking the students to Folsom. The ?pink form? must be completed by every parent driving a carpool, along with a copy of current automobile insurance. Carpool forms are to be given to Christine Robbins on the morning of the Festival. Christine Robbins is organizing carpools for this event. The first combo will perform at 8:25 AM in the Studio Theater (Locke 326) and will leave Davis at 6:40 AM. The second combo will perform at 9:15 AM (same location) and will leave Davis at 7:15 AM. The rest of the Band will also leave at 7:15 AM, and the Jazz Band performs at 10:30 AM (Atherton Theater). Everyone except the first combo will assemble by 7:00 AM at the Band Room. Once the Jazz Band performance and clinic are complete (11:30 AM), students are free to return to Davis, as the evening awards ceremony is optional. There is also an evening concert by Gordon Goodwin?s Big Phat Band; tickets are $25 and $30: http://www.deltacollege.edu/div/finearts/jazzfest/index.html Students will receive a wrist band for entry to school group performances, a noon concert and the clinics (which are said to be held throughout the day in the North and South Hall). Parents and chaperones need to buy an admission pass at the box office ($10). San Joaquin Delta College is in the north part of Stockton--count on just over one hour for the drive (longer if there's fog). Directions: South on I-5, exit at March Lane, drive east on March Lane, turn left on Pacific Avenue and drive north to the entrance at Yokuts Ave. Take a left onto Yokuts, then turn left (south) on Frontage Road; Parking Lot L4 will soon by on your right. Or, head south on Pacific Avenue to the ?Miracle Mile? to Empresso (in the Empire Theater)?where each cappuccino comes with artwork in the froth: http://www.stocktonmiraclemile.com/empressocoffee/index.htm 2. Heading south on Pacific Avenue will also bring you to UOP, with the Brubeck Institute. Nice place to walk around. 3. For the ride back, Giusti's in Walnut Grove (north and west of Stockton) provides a classic delta experience (bring your farmer hat to nail to the ceiling), better food than you?d expect, and possibly the only place in California with worse water than Davis: http://www.giustis.com/ Best regards, Peter Matlock -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Keep scrolling (pasting from excel didn't work very well) to find list of parents whose insurance papers were turned in and filed at DHS and who are now qualified to drive on rent-a-band gigs, parents whose papers are complete and will be turned in on Mon. Nov. 30, and parents whose papers were turned in, but need to turn in proof of insurance. Students who attended at least two rent-a-band rehearsals, but are not on the list below are not eligible to do rent-a-band gigs until their permission paper is turned in. Those papers were/are available in the band room. Please remember that the gigs are like Field Trips. Students may not drive themselves to the gigs. Drivers need to be 25 or older. Parents without permission forms on file at DHS may drive their own child to a gig, but may not have other students in the car. We still need more gigs, so thanks for continuing to spread the word.
