He is the one tracking everyone's payments, and has that info on his computer. Trip account updates were sent to each family last week with information about the trip, and your student's current fundraising account information. A total amounted requested for this payment was listed at the bottom. The full amount for this payment is $150 due March 6th. Some students owe less than that, or nothing for this payment if they have a large balance in their account. Since the Rent A Band earnings were not included on these most recent updates, they will be included in the final student account update sent out next month along with Coconut Grove Earnings from this past weekend. If you think your student has earned a significant amount with Rent A Band, you can check with John for an update. He is traveling on business until the end of the week, and while he may not get to updating and sending 130+ band account emails, he might be able to check for you if you think your student will need to pay less than the $150 requested for the March 6th payment. And not to worry - any overpayment you might make will be refunded if it turns out your student has earned more than you thought they had, so this will all work out in the end. Thank you for your patience as we work to update everything. Bring your family and friends?if we do not have a large attendance then this concert series may not continue in the future. Our jazz students obtain significant benefit from working with the CJP. This is one of the few opportunities for our Jazz Band to play as a group with jazz professionals, not only on stage but in a separate evening clinic. This year, the clinic is timed to prepare for the Reno Jazz Festival. We want to continue this relationship with the CJP for our future students. However, attendance at last year?s concert was embarrassingly low. CJP?s dedication to education is apparent by their willingness to do the concert with the DHS Jazz Band again this year. For those who are not aware?our agreement with the CJP is that they waive their usual fee in exchange for receiving net proceeds from this concert. We are all incredibly grateful for CJP?s good will in returning this year after receiving disconcertingly small proceeds last year, but we can?t rely on their good citizenship year after year. Musicians need to eat too! Note that not one member of CJP has complained, but I personally want to see the CJP return annually in future years and implore you to help make this happen. Economic times may be tough, but with budget cuts again looming this is an easy and enjoyable way to show your support for high-quality music in our schools. Come to the concert. Bring your children, extended family and friends. Bring lots of them! Prices have been reduced this year to make it a more family-friendly event. The music of Hank Jones?a true Jazz Great of mainstream jazz?will be featured. It will be a terrific evening. Plus?we must have more volunteers. Katherine Miller will be working on ticket sales, but needs help. We need lots and lots more publicity. Leslie McDaniel is investigating selling refreshments. Amazingly, despite the tough economy, this year we had record attendance. We also had the most plentiful food ever, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Bobby Coyote of Dos Coyotes, Nate and family of 2kThai, Mark Scribner of Uncle Vito's Pizza, and Aziz of Village Bakery. Please support these wonderful Davis restaurants. They are great supporters of our music programs. Many of you volunteered to make appetizers and desserts or set aside some time to help us pull the event together. Without all of you this event simply could not happen. Thanks to you we'll be able to pay our student volunteers to help offset the cost of the San Diego trip, provide financial aid to all band students who need it, and even have a little left over to pay for the miscellaneous expenses that come with teaching three performing bands. We especially want to recognize the hard work of our team leaders, Paula Yang, Helen Kado-Fong, John Weir, Mike Choy, and Sue and Dave Viguie. They are a joy to work with and have made this, our second Coconut Grove, the best ever. Randy Chinn and Mike Coleman, co-chairs PS: We will have a debrief session next Tuesday March 10 at 7:30pm at Mike's home, 2217 Isle Royale Ln. You are all welcome to join us. Look for the packets of trip forms to be signed that will be coming home this week. Also, if any student will not be traveling with the band the entire time (our trip leaves DHS on Fri. May 15th and returns to DHS the evening of Tues. May 19th) PLEASE inform Mr. Lange and the trip coordinator - Katie Horn - immediately. We are in the final planning stages, making final payments and lists for various events, and we must have accurate counts. So if you have been thinking of making separate travel arrangements for your child due to sports or other conflicts, please let us know so we can work that into the planning. Have a great spring break, and get those trip forms back as soon as possible!
