Hi All,
The Folsom Jazz Festival is next Saturday, January 24. Below please find the information you need to
get your student to the right place at the right time. Please note the web site for the Festival: http://folsommusic.org/jazz.html
PLUS—if your student needs to
ride with a carpool you MUST let me know by 5:00 PM Thursday, January 22!! No exceptions!!!
Below please find the following information:

1. FORMS TO FILL OUT:
Attached with this email please find the following two forms—please download,
print and complete as appropriate:
FOR EVERYONE TO FILL OUT: Yellow form 2a and 2b. EVERY student must bring this completed form
to the Band Room on Saturday morning. Combo
members: please give this form to the adult who is driving you to the Festival.
FOR CARPOOL DRIVERS TO FILL OUT: Parent drivers pink form. EVERY carpool driver must fill this out and
bring it—along with a copy of your automobile insurance card—on Saturday
morning and show it to me that morning.
2. SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY, JANUARY 24:
The schedule of all the performing groups is available by going to:
http://folsommusic.org/jazz.html and clicking on the “Schedule” link at the lower left of the page.
Our schedule is:
7:00 AM Davis HS Combo
arrives: there is no warm-up room for
combos (note—Combo is responsible for arranging
their transportation with parent drivers, to arrive on time for their
performance)
7:30 AM Davis HS Combo plays at
Folsom HS Library
11:15 AM Davis HS Big Band is in
DHS Band Room, ready to go—DO NOT BE LATE!
11:30 AM Davis HS Big Band
departs for Folsom: parents either drive their students in their own car, or
students travel in pre-assigned carpool(s)
12:15 – 1:00 PM Sac State Latin
Jazz Band plays at Folsom HS Theater
If you want to leave earlier to hear the DHS Combo, other groups
(see on-line schedule) or the CSUS Latin Jazz Band then you MUST contact me by
5:00 PM Thursday, January 22 so I can get you your student’s wristband. The rest of us will arrive during the CSUS
concert—but remember that we heard this group at the October Natsoulas
Festival.

will be a clinic afterwards to obtain feedback from the judge(s)…I do not have
a room number for this, but it will be announced on-site
Students are free to return to Davis with their parents or carpool
after this point to prepare for Play-a-Thon. Staying longer at the Festival is optional (and will ultimately conflict
with Play-a-Thon). For those who want to
stay, following are some events you may want to see:

3. WRISTBAND DISTRIBUTION, COST TO ATTEND THE
FESTIVAL:
Mr. Lange has a wristband for each student. Combo members should get their wristband no
later than Friday, January 23 and REMEMBER to bring them on Saturday. All other Big Band members will get their
wristband on Saturday morning.
All accompanying adults will need to pay the $12.00 admission fee,
which includes entrance to all events on Saturday and a printed schedule.

a. From Highway 50, take the Prairie City Exit
b. Turn left over Highway 50 onto Prairie City Road
(going north)
c. Turn right at second light into Folsom High
parking lot
2. Rolling Hills Christian Church:
a. From Highway 50, take exit 30A for Latrobe Road
b. Turn right at Latrobe Road
c. Turn right at White Rock Road, Church is on the
left
3. From Folsom High School to Rolling Hills Church:
a. Turn left onto Prairie City Road
b. Merge onto Highway 50 towards South Lake Tahoe
c. From Highway 50, take exit 30A for Latrobe Road
d. Turn right at Latrobe Road
e. Turn right at White Rock Road, Church is on the
left
5. INFORMATION FOR COMBO:
· Combos are scheduled in 20 minute performance
slots: warm-up, performance and clinic are included in these 20 minutes (come
prepared to play, don’t dawdle!)
· A bass amp, drum set and piano will be provided
in the performance area
· “Everyone needs to bring cymbals, the entire Hi Hat, stand, clutch, cymbals,
throne, bass drum pedal. Everything else will be provided. (2 cymbal
stands are provided)”
· Were you to include a guitar, you’d need to
bring a guitar amp
6. INFORMATION
FOR BIG BAND:
· Warm-up (Gym) is 25 minutes prior to performance
(Theater)
· Band will have 25 minutes to set-up and perform:
note that 5 of these 25 minutes is reserved for soloist awards—there are only
20 minutes to set-up and perform (again—be prepared!)
· After the performance, stay seated until the adjudicator
has given out soloist awards, then proceed to the clinic room
· A bass amp, drum set and piano will be provided
in the performance and clinic rooms
· There will be sound systems in the performance
area (Theater) only
· You are welcome to bring your own amps, if you
want
· There are no pianos, amps or drums in the
warm-up room (Gym)
· “Everyone needs to bring cymbals, the entire Hi Hat, stand, clutch, cymbals,
throne, bass drum pedal. Everything else will be provided. (2 cymbal
stands are provided)”
· Guitar players must bring their own guitar amp
FOOD, MISCELLANEOUS:
· The Folsom HS Band Boosters will be selling food
and souvenirs all day long
· Food includes Round Table, Rubio’s, Strings,
Planet Smoothie, Tasty Time, Kettle Corn, O’Connors Santa Maria Grill &
Catering, Wildcat Coffee, and more coffee
· There will be a group taking pictures—we haven’t
seemed to do this in the past, but FYI
· DVD’s are also available for $20 apiece. There should be a table on-site for these
· T-shirts will be sold: you can pre-order on the
web site or buy at the Festival
