      Dear Jazz Band Parents,


      Thanks to the Band Booster’s donation to the Reno Jazz Festival trip, the cost per student for this weekend’s Festival is $36.53.  Please return a check for this amount made out to the “Davis Senior High School Band Boosters” along with your student’s signed permission slips.  Payment must be made in advance of the trip!


      Also, please provide your student money for the following meals ($70 is probably adequate):


      Friday lunch: or, provide a pre-packed lunch

      Friday dinner: probably at the Silver Legacy (food at the Silver Legacy is neither cheap nor exorbitant—if you choose carefully)

      Saturday breakfast: probably at the Silver Legacy

      Saturday lunch: at the University of Nevada, Reno

      Saturday dinner: probably at the Silver Legacy


      The Silver Legacy is located at 407 N. Virginia St. Reno, NV 89501   If you call your student, please call on their cell phone.


      The drive to Reno is about 2.5 hours, and directions to the Silver Legacy are:

      Our room fees at the Silver Nugget also give us parking passes for their garage.  If you need a parking pass, please track me down in Reno (530-867-1651). Parking at UNR is additional, and can be scarce.


      Directions from the Silver Legacy to University of Nevada, Reno are easy:

      Room and chaperone assignments are below.  Carpool assignments will be distributed shortly. A revised copy of the itinerary (sent yesterday) is attached.


      Note that all students are expected to stay until 5:00 PM Saturday (unless prior arrangements have been made with Mr. Lange), in the event that the DHS Jazz Band may be called back to perform at the Saturday evening concert.


      Also note that Jon Hatamiya is playing with the Festival All-Stars at the Saturday evening concert, at approximately 6:45 PM. Students should work with their carpool drivers to see if they can stay to hear Jon.  If possible, we want to support this exciting opportunity for him.  The All-Star Combo is a fun group, and Jon is carrying on a DHS tradition by performing with them.


      Also note that current weather forecasts are for showers and colder temperatures on Saturday.  Prepare accordingly.


      Please be sure that your student and chaperones exchange cell phone numbers.  At the designated check-in times, chaperones must physically see each of their designated students (simply calling on cell phones is not acceptable).  Check-in times with the chaperones are:


      Friday 1:30 PM  Silver Legacy check-in lobby

      Friday 5:15 PM  Silver Legacy check-in lobby

      Friday after the evening concert:  walkway in front of the Lawlor Center

      Friday 11:30 PM  Room check-in—done by chaperones assigned to each student room (see second list below)


      Saturday  9:00 AM  Silver Legacy check-in lobby

      Saturday Noon  at UNR, location to be decided between chaperones and students

      Saturday 5:00 PM Meet with your carpool drivers; decide when to return to Davis (remember Jon is playing at 6:45 PM)
