It really has been inspirational to watch everyone do everything they can to help, and all of you contributed, whether in thought, spirit, energy, hope, action, or donation. What we experienced is what can come of true community action, and this is a great lesson for all of us in how to pro-actively and very positively create our future paths and ways for the benefit of everyone involved. I am beyond impressed with everyone in our orchestra programs, our band and choral programs, our parents, and extended music family that all put everything they could into reaching this phenominal goal. I've never been so proud to be associated with such an incredible group of students and parents, as we are a big orchestra family together. And a great many thanks to the parents on the front lines of this effort who are part of the SOM! Committee and DSOMA. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to music in the schools. We couldn't have done this without you. As well, I know many of you supported the DSF in thier great efforts, and I want to give you a HUGE thanks for being a part of the greater fundraising campaign. With the greater Davis community effort, an incredible goal was reached, and many teachers in all areas of study, and many programs will be saved due to your efforts. I couldn't be more proud to be a citizen of this great town, and be associated with all of its amazing and dedicated people. Thank you for supporting the greater cause and helping to bring back our librarians and elem science programs, and all the other teachers that will be able to be rehired due to everyone's efforts. >From the bottom of my heart and all my soul, THANK YOU ALL for everything. I am indebted to this community and look forward to many many more years teaching music in Davis, and advocating for music in our schools, while supporting the general community. Congratulations everyone, as this is our success together. Everyone made this possible, and we should be proud of what our greater orchestra family can do and become. Onward and forward, Mr. Brucker ----- Original Message ---- From: ANGELO MORENO angelo.moreno at sbcglobal.net To all Orchestra Families and students, This has been an incredible past 8 weeks being a part of and witnessing the hard work done by so many to save this most precious gift we have the joy of sharing together. It has been an inspiration beyond words to see how the music students, music families, friends, businesses and the Davis Community as a whole stepped up to say we want and hold dear the music in our schools!! Last night I had the honor of standing along with my music colleagues and members of DSOMA-SOM committee in font of the board and delivering the good news that music will be in our schools next year!!! A check for $204,977 was handed over from the Save Our Music members to the members of the Davis Schools Foundation (DSF) to donate to the District, as a standing ovation and the roar of applause and cheers of congratulations rang out. It was an emotional and uplifting moment, one I will never forget. The collective power of all us working together to achieve an unimaginable goal is in essence what makes great musical accomplishments possible in performance. These life lessons of determination, commitment to achieving excellent results, and team work are what make us stronger as music students and as a community. I am proud to announce that due to our fund raising efforts we were able fund the Elementary Music Program, and reinstate the Secondary Music Teachers that were to be laid off- Angelo Moreno, Greg Brucker , William Zinn, and Clyde Quick, and protect six secondary music classes from being cut due to low enrollment. In addition, we asked DSF to redirect the bulk of the funds they had collected for music in their general fund raising to other program categories to bring back two non-music teachers for our kids. In the end, this fund raising effort was not just for music, but for all of our programs. I want to thank our partners throughout this fund raising effort from the Davis Schools Foundation, our DSOMA-Save Our Music Committee Hiram Jackson, Jenny Decker, Lisa Nelson, Robert Chung, Devi Eden, Lani Fulcher, Carol Mathisen, Melissa Gregg, Sarah Rock, Sharon Premzic, Russ Hobby , Debbie Finley, Marian Bilheimer, and many more!! The producer mentioned that footage from DSF video and Schoolapalooza made the final cut, so set your tivo or tune in. I will e-mail this info to the School liaisons, Volunteer Captains, Enterprise and Bee so hopefully the kids in it will get to see themselves on TV. Help spread the word... Please just bring the money with you and we will collect it at the party. Actually, a wiser parent informed me that I underestimated the cost. Sorry about that. We will also need a few more tables and chairs. If you have these, could you please contact Lesli Chuck by email (leslichuck at gmail.com) and she will coordinate this part.
