This meeting of all Jazz Band parents will be held tomorrow evening, Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the band room at DHS. IT IS VITAL THAT AT LEAST ONE JAZZ BAND PARENT (and ideally 2) ATTEND. At this meeting we will discuss whether or not we should pursue plans to go on this trip. I will discuss the tour -- it's educational goals and benefits. You will be able to ask any questions you might have and express your support/concerns. NOTE: It is probably best that students do not attend - this will give the grown-ups a chance to engage in frank discussions. In addition, Lesli Chuck and Lisa Yamauchi will discuss plans for the up-coming Jazz and Arts Festival. Thank you See you all tomorrow. Now that your student is an active member of the band, we hope you will take advantage of this outstanding positive family experience. It is the opportunity to join your son/daughter in the attainment of a mutual goal, something you do not want to miss. At a time when young people are making crucial decisions concerning personal behavior, ethics, integrity, morals, and an array of vital life choices, wouldn't you like to be around to have some influence on their direction? Band parents enjoy this unusual vantage point, and all of the band members benefit from such a healthy relationship. Band parents are also integrated into every phase of the program. They are not passive observers, or simply a polite sideline audience, but active contributors in the daily operation of the program. The ongoing success of our program is in direct proportion to the support of our parents. We need you. I often think there is as much pride in our band parent organization as there is in the band itself. Many of our parent participants have found hidden social benefits for their own growth and development. Not only do our boosters work hand-in- hand with our band program, but they relish the exchange with other parents who share a common interest. You may think there are not enough hours in the day to add one more responsibility to your schedule. This is a legitimate consideration; however, we are sensitive to the situation. You will find everyone is willing to make the necessary accommodations so all parents can become involved. It is a chance that will only come around once in lifetime for your student. Our first scheduled meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 in the IPAB Theater at Davis High School. Please mark this on your calendar and plan to be with us for a brief get-together to meet our veteran members and get a bird's-eye view of our band program. You will also enjoy the optimistic atmosphere of our band's number-one fan club ? our band parents. You will quickly sense the caring and sharing attitude that has become the trademark of this group. I urge you to attend our meetings, become an active member of the various committees, and join the ranks of the wonderful "Band Boosters" who ensure our students are at the front of life's parade. Personal regards, Fredrick Lange Director of Bands P.S. If you are unable to attend the meeting on the 12th due to religious reasons, we will be holding a meeting the day before (Tuesday, September 11, 7:30 p.m.) in the band room at DHS. Perhaps you have a cabin to loan, or Southwest airline flight coupons you could donate. Do you have a friend who has a business in town who might be interested in donating dinner for two or a flower arrangement? How about putting together a theme basket with another jazz family or two, perhaps some good books, a tea mug and special teas? We would like to have one grand prize, and smaller prizes to motivate people to buy the raffle tickets. As you may know, there is no admission costs for the festival; the money is generated through the raffle, a portion of the food and drink sales and direct donation. The raffle could be a big part of the event income, so please help if you can. Let us know by September 24th or earlier if possible, what your contribution will be. The band should have a decision soon. Since we are on such a time crunch, I need to get the shirts ASAP in order to get them before the Jazz Fest October 6th. I need your band students dress shirt size so that I can order the correct shirt sizes. If you were in the jazz band last year and last years shirt still fits your student, you can look at the label to determine the size. If you do not know your students shirt size, use the guide below to help you measure accurately. Please email me you students shirt size ASAP so that we can get the shirts in time. Thanks, Tami Rabowsky 759-0460 Dress Shirt Dress shirt sizes combine collar and sleeve length. For example, a 15" collar and 32" sleeve are sized as 15/32. To determine your collar size, measure around your neck just above your collar bone, leaving 1 - 2 fingers between the tape and you. Round up to the nearest 1/2 inch. Sleeve length is the length from the middle of your back to the shoulder and down your arm to your wrist bone. Round up to the nearest inch. Many dress shirts are sized with a sleeve range, such as a 34-35 sleeve. You may also collect any coupons from friends and relatives and donate them to the bands as long as they have a redemption code on the face. If the coupon DOES NOT have a redemption code on the face, you do not need to do anything at all. It means that you are already registered with Escrip and your contributions will be deposited in the Band Boosters account, or the account of whatever group you were registered for during the summer. After being told that number did not exist, I searched via location and found the correct number. A 1 needs to be at the end, thus the number is 137316731. Can you post the corrected number to the listserv? D ----- Original Message ----- From: J. Please contact Peter Matlock at matlockpeter at yahoo.com if you can take on this important job. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The following message was sent by outgoing Scrip donation chair, Amelia Triest: For the school year 2007-2008, eScrip members with registered cards need to renew their commitment to Safeway/Escrip. Follow the directions that follow, or use the tear out card/directions in the Escrip magazine mailed to homes this past summer. Have your Safeway Club Card number available and log on to www.escrip.com. Click on YES RENEW! If you have not previously signed up, but would like to, follow the same directions, but click on 1- Sign Up. The ID # for DHS Bands is: 13731673. You must renew by Nov 1 in order to continue to earn contributions for DHS Band Boosters. ALSO, Safeway and Escrip are distributing Rewards Coupons between now and October 6. These rewards are based on purchases of certain items made at Safeway between July 18 and Sept 4. If you shop at Safeway, you may receive a cash register tape that includes a coupon similar to the one below. If it has a redemption code printed on the face, please save it to give to the scrip coordinator for the bands (as yet unnamed). The coupon will say: 10% Back to Schools Reward Certificate Congratulations! Your redemption code is: 1234... You earned $25.00 for the school of your choice. (tried to include an image of the certificate here but could not get the listserver to accept it) @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Amelia Triest Lecturer Department of Music University of California Davis, CA? 95616 Tel?? 530.754.7092 Fax? 530.752.0983 atriest at ucdavis.edu http://music.ucdavis.edu @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ Dhsbb-symph mailing list Dhsbb-symph at velocipede.dcn.davis.ca.us http://www2.dcn.org/mailman/listinfo/dhsbb-symph -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The starred items need to be filled. Please, send this out and have people email at desdhunt at comast.net to let me know what they want to do. More students are needed to help cover the Band Booster Booth which will have CDs, Raffle tickets and water. Siblings and friends can also help out while the Jazz Band is performing from 4:00 to 5:00. Everyone needs to be on alert for keeping the areas cleaned continually. Garbage and recycling bins will be placed throughout the areas. At 6:00 everyone needs to be sure that their areas are cleaned and picked up. I am expecting that parents and students take the initiative on Saturday to move into jobs if they see that there is a need. First, thank you all for all your hard work in this event. This certainly is "ground-breaking" and promises to be a lot of fun! It is so IMPRESSIVE to see how many people are signed up to work the festival! I do have a few questions, however. 1) I notice most of the Jazz students signed up to work and will certainly ask that they all take a shift. What else should I be doing with this list? asking students from other bands (and if so, what can they expect from their help)? 2) I see one thing that may have been overlooked, and that is getting equipment from DHS to the sites and back again. Just for the big band we will need to have a keyboard and amp, bass amp, drum set, and 25 music stands (I assume there is power for the electronic instruments and a PA). I cannot get this myself and have no vehicle that can carry it. Also, is any additional equipment needed for the Natsoulas Stage? Do we need to supply that location as well? (keyboard, drums, stands?) Maybe this is all covered but I don't have this info and will need to get people into the music building. Fred On Sep 29, 2007, at 3:32 PM, David E.
