Simply buy gift certificates/cards through the Band Boosters scrip program and we'll get a percentage of every card purchased. The cards can be given as gifts or used yourself to buy gift or everyday items. The attached form lists a number of local and national retailers who participate and the percentages they donate. (Please note that an earlier version of this form was sent with the November newsletter this week, but the attached version has a few revisions and updates.) This month's deadline for ordering is next Thursday, November 8 (see details on the form), so now's the time to get some shopping done. Questions? At the last Band Booster meeting we discussed the possibilility of adding more carwashes in the Spring. We have possibly secured a couple more dates. I am asking for 2 more parent volunteers to coordinate these carwashes. Tentatively we are looking at 4/19 and 4/26. Please email me if you are able to do this. The Band performs at 3:30 for 25 minutes. School group performances wrap up at 5:00 PM, the awards ceremony begins at 5:00 and there is an evening concert by The Yellowjackets at 8:00 PM. The Festival encourages all students to attend a noon concert by the Delta Jazz Ensemble, clinics at 1:00 and 2:30 PM by members of The Yellowjackets (North and South Forum), and performances by other school groups (beginning at 8:00 AM). All students will receive a wrist band for entry to school group performances, the noon concert and the clinics. Parents and chaperones will need to buy a $10 admission pass at the box office. Day passes do NOT provide admission to the 8:00 PM concert by The Yellowjackets. Tickets for this evening performance are $25 or $35: http://www.deltacollege.edu/div/finearts/jazzfest/index.html San Joaquin Delta College is in the north part of Stockton--count on just over one hour for the drive. Directions: South on I-5, exit at March Lane, drive east on March Lane, turn left on Pacific Avenue and drive north to the entrance at Yokuts Ave. See this link: http://www.deltacollege.edu/info/general/map/directions.html I assume we want to be there for the noon concert, which means arriving no later than 11:30 AM. This means convening in the Band Room at 10:00 AM and leaving the DHS parking lot at 10:15 AM. Please let me know if you need a carpool for your student, or if you are available to drive other students. Those students taking the SAT that morning will of course arrive later. Please let me know if this will be the case so I can arrange for your student to receive their wrist band. DHS Jazz Band Schedule: Our warm-up period is 3:05 PM in Holt 113--Band Room. Our performance is at 3:30 PM in the Atherton Auditorium. We have 25 minutes to set up, perform and exit. Our clinic is immediately after our performance in Holt 213--Choir Room. Awards are presented at 5:00 PM. I am checking with Mr. Lange to see if there are call-back performances (there do not appear to be any). Additional Information: Attached to this email please find a Word document with excerpts from the package provided by Delta College to Mr. Lange. It includes information on equipment, schedule, maps, parking, etc. Please note the following: Percussionists: must bring cymbals, complete hi-hat and bass drum pedal Bassists and guitarists: bring your own 1/4" patch cords Delta College is in session--we are requested not to disturb classes No food or drink allowed in the theater or classrooms Students must not congregate outside the warm-up or performance areas. Is anyone interested in organizing dinner at a pizza place after the Festival (this was a great event last year, and a nice way to wrap up the day)? Note that we will NOT be attending the Sacramento State Jazz Festival this year (December 8). Miscellaneous: Some diversions in the Stockton area if you have extra time (feel free to add): 1. Giusti's in Walnut Grove (north and west of Stockton) is a classic delta restaurant, and possibly the only place in Northern California that has worse water than Davis: http://www.giustis.com/ 2. You can revive yourself with caffeine on the way to Delta College at the place with the most wince-inducing name yet passable coffee south of Sacramento and north of LA at Toot Sweets: left on Quail Lakes Drive shortly after turning east on March Lane. 3. The Haggin Museum for that rare blend of Ag History, Pioneer History and an Egyptian mummy and mummified cat (??). Plus, some say the place is haunted: http://www.hagginmuseum.org/ Be sure to let me know if carpooling is needed, or if you can drive. More information is coming regarding permission slips, etc. Best regards, Peter Matlock --------------------------------- Be a better pen pal. Text or chat with friends inside Yahoo! Mail. Also--if you can drive a carpool you will need to fill out the driver's form. Please let me know if you can drive, or if you need a ride for your student. At the moment we have one student who needs a ride. No-one has yet offered to look into a pizza party after the Festival. We did this last year after the Sac State Jazz Festival and everyone had a great time. If we want to do a party this year then we'll need someone to coordinate a pizza place in Stockton. Message-ID: <425432.68571.qm@web50508.mail.re2.yahoo.com> Dear Jazz Band Parents, If you haven't already done so, please be SURE that your student returns the signed permission slip (attached) to Mr. Lange prior to this Saturday's trip (ie--return it tomorrow). Remember that we meet at 10:00 AM in the Band Room, with departure at 10:15 AM. This is so we can arrive and be checked in prior to the noon concert and 1:00 PM clinic (see prior email). A number of students will be taking the SAT's that morning, so they will be arriving later. If you are arriving later, please contact me so we can arrange for your student to get their wristband (required for entry). I will have my cell phone with me. The DHS Jazz Band performs at 3:30 PM in the Atherton Auditorium. There will be a clinic from approximately 4:00 - 4:30 PM with feedback on the performance. Standings are announced at 5:00 PM. There will be no call-backs. There is a concert by the Yellowjackets that night for an additional $25 - 35. The evening concert is voluntary. Please remember the permission slips! Although Joyce Boulanger had initially volunteered for the position and BB approved her for the position, I did not adequately inform her of the time commitment this position would demand. Unfortunately, she does not have this amount of time, and we decided that it would be best for Joyce to back out of this position. The good news is that Clyde Kelly has the time and has volunteered to serve as our BB treasurer. We have the added benefit that his wife, Katie, will help with some of the responsibilities as well. I made an executive decision to have Clyde start performing the treasurer tasks so we do not become further behind. We will still need to vote him in on the next BB meeting. Going to Mountain Mike's is entirely a personal decision, yet offers a chance to see this annual and defining Bay Area sports event--which is now inextricably linked to bands (and trombone players) by virtue of The Play (note that this year is the 25th anniversary of that tragic event). Anyone so inclined is certainly welcome to come and enjoy this game in a non-partisan setting (Beat Cal!). From Delta College, head south on Pacific Avenue towards W.
