I?m excited to get the year rolling and look forward to seeing everyone as we approach our new school year. Last June, we ended the year with a very successful trip to New York City and performed in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall. While this is a once in every three years? event, this year has many new and exciting events planned for the band students. Symphonic Band students have their first concert on November 14th titled, ?Made in California.? This concert will feature at least one world premiere (possibly two!) as well as the premiere of the newest DJUSD ensemble, the High School Mariachi Ensemble (the name is still being worked out). This band will also have additional concerts in December, March, and May. The Jazz Band students will have several festivals they will attend, as well as home concerts in December & May. The Band Boosters have also begun planning a possible trip to the French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans in April, 2019. The Concert Band students will be preparing for performances in December, March, and May. Both the Concert and Symphonic Bands will be heading to Los Angeles for a trip to UCLA and Disneyland, including a performance in the park and a studio recording session with Disney recording artists in March 2019. This is a wonderful trip! And, yes, Pep Band is open to all DHS Band students with Football and Volleyball games in the Fall, and basketball games in the Winter! We kick off the year with a Welcome Back Pot Luck Barbecue where everyone is invited to attend and share in the camaraderie of our wonderful group. Please mark your calendar now for this event to be held on THURSDAY, AUGUST 30th, beginning at 6:00pm. We will follow with the first DHS Band Boosters meeting at 7:30pm in room PA-3. The evening will end promptly at 9:00pm. The DHS Band Boosters will supply the following items for the barbecue: Hot Dogs (Including veggie dogs) & buns Watermelon Ice Water Plates, utensils, cups Please help us by bringing items, based upon the first letter of your last name. If your last name begins with? A through J:Side Dish or Salad K through T:Dessert item U through Z:Drinks (not water) We also need people to help with the organization (e.g. set-up, cooking, tear down) of this event. Please follow this link (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0c4fada82ea57-band) and volunteer to help as you are available!
