This is the first newsletter issue from Yolo United, a team of
Democratic groups working strategically in Yolo County to promote
democratic values for the November election and beyond.
We apologize if you get this email multiple times. We are in the process
of getting a listserve up and running that you will be able to opt-in
to, but for now we are relying on the email lists of our groups and
thus, there will be some duplication.
Send submissions for future issues or comments to Barbara Archer,
communications chair, Yolo United, at bdedavis at gmail.com.
The issues covered in this newsletter are:
Voter Database Training in Sacramento on Saturday, June 21st
Yolo United Potluck in Central Park in Davis on Saturday, June 21st
4th of July Democrat Event in Davis
TRAINING IN VOTER DATABASE AND VOTER ACTION ON SATURDAY, JUNE 21ST
Everyone is invited to participate in a voter database and voter action
training this Saturday. The particulars are:
Date: Saturday, June 21, 2008,
Time: Database training - 9 am - noon
Voter Action - noon to 3 pm
Location: Central Labor Council, 2840 El Centro Road, Sacramento
To carpool, meet at Common Grounds coffee shop in the Safeway Shopping
Center in South Davis at 8:20 am. Look for Randy Milliken who will have
a sign.
The 2008 campaign for president has some tremendous advantages over past
campaigns. A key one is the recent development of a web-based tool that
allows neighborhood leaders, precinct captains and phone bank
coordinators to organize and sort the voter database for walking and
calling lists and then add the corrections, Voter ID and other changes
directly to the database via the web.
The Obama campaign used this to great success in the California primary.
In addition to the database training, there will be a training in how to
convince a decline-to-state, undecided, even a Republican voter to vote
Democratic in the November election.
In the afternoon, participants are encouraged, but are not required to
use their skills to walk for congressional candidates Charlie Brown and
Bill Durston.
For those not able to attend who want to become neighborhood/precinct
leaders or database trainers, please contact Kevin Wolf
(kevin at wolfandassociates.com 530-758-4221) or Judy Tischer
(judy.tischer at gmail.com 530-661-0657).
YOLO UNITED POTLUCK ON SATURDAY, JUNE 21ST
Yolo United will be hosting a potluck dinner on Saturday, June 21st,
from 6 - 8 p.m. at Central Park in Davis at the oak tree (4th and C
Streets). Bring a dish to share and your own utensils.
Come join the fun, learn about the 08 campaign, make a donation,
register to vote and/or sign up to volunteer. Its time to activate for
democracy!
For more information contact Claire Black Slotton at
democracygirl at gmail.com or at 530-574-3476.
COME AND CELEBRATE THE 4TH OF JULY WITH LOCAL DEMOCRATS
The Yolo County for Obama 08 campaign and the Davis Democratic Club
have coordinated their plans for the Independence Day celebration in
Community Park in Davis. The Davis College Democrats will join them in
distributing red, white and blue helium balloons to children and
information to their parents.
Local elected officials, candidates and campaign representatives will
greet the public. You are invited to enjoy a memorable July 4th by
registering voters, recruiting volunteers and blowing up balloons. For
further information, contact Carl Schmid at cwschmid at comcast.net. The
broad participation for this fun event makes a prototype for forthcoming
events at Davis Election Headquarters.
